Benson's Story
Benson is 15 years old. He lives in Zambia with his grandparents, Theresa and Stephen, along with three siblings and several cousins. The average Zambian adult only lives to age 38, so children like Benson are often given over to the care of their grandparents when their own parents die of AIDS, war, poverty and other illnesses. As a student at the Beracah orphan project, Benson is one of the fortunate ones -- his school fees are paid. Unfortunately, his siblings are not currently in the program and therefore don’t have the same opportunity.
