Springfield Volunteer Opportunities
We're looking for a team of dedicated people to help manage and staff the Run for Hungry Children. Below is a list of the types of volunteers we will need to help plan the event on the event day itself:Children Activities - Organize and plan for children activities including the 50 and 100 yard dash. Some sites have arts & crafts and games as well. Experience leading children activities and a heart for children would be preferred.
Event Solutions - Assist volunteers where needed. Answer general questions from participants. Address registration issues. A person with some knowledge or experience with races a plus.
Finish Line Team - Assist timing company. Assist & direct participants after the race.
Local Marketing Coordinator - Assist market coordinator in publicizing the event and seeking local sponsors. Rallying the local community to get behind this event is critical. Volunteers who can communicate the purpose of this event are greatly needed.
Main Food Table - Distribute food to participants (runners, walkers, family and supporters!).
Master of Ceremonies - The Master of Ceremonies will announce various activities, introduce speakers, and lead the racing/walking event according to schedule. A great voice and personality is desired.
Photographer/Videographer - Take pictures and/or video of the event. You will need to provide your own equipment. Digital pictures will be uploaded to our photo website.
Race Course Marshals & Setup - Prepare the course for participants (barricades, traffic cones). Manage mile marker display timers. Direct participants on course at key turning locations. Monitor for health & safety issues during the event.
Race Day Registration - Registration / Check-In of runners & walkers on race day. Processing registrations, collecting money, handing out runner bibs and t-shirts. Because there is a rush of runners and walkers right before the race we need lots of volunteers who can work quickly and accurately in this area.
Race Event Setup/Tear Down Crew - Set up and plan for various equipment for the event, i.e. tables, chairs. Assist in delivery if needed. Pick up food. This is literally the backbone of the event so we need volunteers who are handy and like moving stuff around.
Race Pace Guide - Lead runners through the course via bicycle or car.
Runners/Walkers Spotters - Assist the MC in announcing runners/walkers at the finish line via portable sound systems. Assist MC in distributing the awards at the closing ceremony.
Traffic Control Team - Assist in directing traffic.
Water Station Team - Distribute water while cheering participants on at various locations. This is a really fun all ages volunteer opportunity!
If you're interested in any of the above, please use the form below to contact your local Race Director. Please note that our needs may change, and all of the positions above may not be available, or may have already been filled.
Our partner in Pignon, Haiti, has established 17 schools in Pignon and the surrounding communities and was able to establish a School Feeding Program. Many of the students do not receive proper nutrition or even a basic meal before attending school and most would not be attending school at all if it were not for these programs. Currently, there are approx 2,500 students attending and each day, one meal is offered to every child that attends.
